Don't lose the simplicity of life..
I've been wanting to blog about this for a long time but didn't get to put it down till now.
Let's see, how should I begin?
Okie. I can imagine that if I'm still staying in Singapore, I would no doubt own an iphone. Well, I might not be the most tech-savvy person around, but hey, almost everyone has an iphone and since it's the fashion and it's affordable, I bet I would go for it too. Isn't it already a fact and a trend that even kids love to play on iphone? So, I'm 99% sure I will have one by now, IF I was in sg.
But guess what? I am still using my Nokia slider phone which probably is about two-thirds of a decade old liaoz. Amazing, it's still surviving though sometimes abit siao and will shut off. But so, since it can function and meet my basic needs living here in Sweden, I'm contented with it.
The point is, I'm quite saddened by the fact that we are doing away with all the simple things in life, having been replaced by endless gadgets that technology has brought. Whatever happened to simple, fun games like five stones, hopscotch, zero point and lao ying zhuo xiao ji? Is it just me, or do people realise that kids nowadays are now longer playing them? Instead, it's Ninetendo DS, Wii, Iphone etc. I mean it, I feel sad.
To me, childhood is a very simple, carefree and happy thing. You definitely do not need all these techy stuff to make a kid happy. Or rather, I should even say I think that LIFE itself is very simple. You also do not need all these stuff to make yourself happy. I kinda think that jw and I are rather simple-minded, carefree and happy-go-lucky people, and I somehow hope that Angel will grow up like that too, and not keep bugging me to buy her new techy toys after seeing all her friends playing with them.
I dunno. I guess I'm just afraid that the simplicity of life is getting lost as we advance with time. I will always feel that life is simple and should be simple. No need for fanciful stuff, no need for expensive items, no need for complicated things. Those might enhance our life and standard of living, but honestly I somehow don't think we really need them. All we need is family, friends and love to keep us happy. Simple. right?
So back to my analogy on iphone, I am kind of happy that staying in Sweden made me keep to my Nokia phone (it's so old that I dun even remember its model, haha) for soooooo long. Haha. It also gave me that perspective that I actually don't really need those things in my life. They may just be a fad, a trend, a gadget, and these things are never ending, aren't they? Being here in Karlskrona, such a simple, laid back and happy town has made me realise just how happy I can be spending simple, happy, quality time with my baby and my dear hubby. I can have nothing but two of them, doing nothing with the two of them by my side, but still feel that I am so blessed.
Perhaps this was a lesson that I would not have learnt if I have not left sg. Well, so no iphone for now. Just let me indulge in the simplicity of my life now. =) Angel, mummy will teach you 5 stones and we'll play lao ying zhuo xiao ji with daddy okie?
