SCI alumni dinner @ Oriental

Our SCI alumni dinner was held at Oriental Hotel on 21 Sept, in view of our school's 15th Anniversary. It was great to see so many familiar faces again. =) I think over 60 of my batch pple turned up!

Well, like what I've been feeling recently, people around me are moving on with life in different directions, at different speeds. Some of us have bidded farewell to media and moved on to other industries like banking and HR, while some of us are still surviving in advertising, PR, journ, mediacorp etc. Well well, all the best to each & every one of my dearest pals!! Whatever it is, let's be happie and not regret our choice in future bah. =)

GAL POWER!!

I had one big wish that entire nite.. A wish that I knew won't come true. Wishing that dear ishi was here wif all of us to catch up on the good old times. Wishing I could hear his infectious laughter. Wishing he could be in the group foto wif us. Wishing I could give a pat on his shoulder like how i always used to. Wishing I could share wif him about my ROM in dec.

Yar.. I still miss him more than words can say. & I don't want the wound to one day stop hurting, because it might mean that I've forgotten him.

Good nite. Am at a loss for words tonite. May health and joy be with all of us.

Luv, shuang

Home Sweet Home...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Oh yeah, I thought I better write about my journey back too, since it was so memorable for me. hehe.

We had to wake up at 6am on the day that I was to depart for home. Dear jw had to drive again for over 3 hours to get us to Denmark, and we were gg to the Spore Consulate there so that he could get his replacement passport done. Wooo, good opportunity for me to see Denmark too! Even if it meant we could only drive around hurriedly, but well, better than nothing. =) He also brought me to Morrum on the way, where we could see and hear the magnifent waterfall. =)

Soon, we had to finally say Byebye at Denmark airport. It wasn't a tearful separation, because I guess we are both strong pple. Wahaha. (errrmmm, now, who was the couple who was hugging and crying in bed the previous nite... the gal who bawled like a 5-year old kid and the guy who seldom but did drop a few tears of sorrow...) Hmmm. Back to the airport, it was 8 Aug that day and I was looking forward to catching the live telecast of NDP the next day when i reached home. But well, ren suan bu ru tian suan (aka you never know what heaven has in store for you, and life is really so unpredictable at times).

It was a smooth check in for me at Denmark, again without my passport. It felt weird to be flying alone now, but well, I knew I had to survive. Soon, the budget airplane took me safely to Amsterdam Schipol Airport, back to where I started. =) Counting the time, I figured out I had to wander for 4-5 hours before I could board my KLM flight back to S'pore.

But, GUESS WHAT? I saw that there was the word 'Flight Delayed' when I went to check the timings on the screen, and much as I hope it wasn't so unlucky that that was my flight, it so happened that it was. Out of all the flights that night, only one was delayed. From 9.30pm to midnite 12.30am. Wow. 3 more hours of loitering in Amsterdam, without my phone and not much $$, I thought well, why not, I could window shop around and re-read my Da Vinci Code which I bought from The Louvre.

So i settled down for lunch and bought myself a huge plate of spagetti along with huge meatballs. Keke. & I started reading my book. Then I walked around the shops, bought some chocos for my colleagues, got my tax refund for the camera (yippie! 40 more euros for me) and bought a camera pouch, hp pouch and a jewellery set for mummy. That's it. Declared almost 'bankrupt' along with some coins and maybe a 5euro notes in my wallet. Woohoo.

Saw that there was a casino in this airport. & much as I was tempted to check it out, I didn't. Hehe. Found a comfortable sofa seat for me to rest and spend the next few hours. The next moment I went to check the timings, it was nearing 8pm at nite. & wow. I had a shock of my life when i saw the flight departure time was changed to the next day. WHAT??? I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Neh, this can't be true right? Why would anything so unlucky happen to me, AGAIN?? but well, it did. My flight was cancelled. For whatever reason that was left unexplained.

I didn't know what to feel when they told me I had to go look for the hotel desk which will help me settle my accommodation for tonight. For the 2nd time, I got the compensatory KLM phone card that provided a 5min call to anywhere in the world (the first was given to me for the flight delay). Well, when I called jw, I felt like a helpless gal. I think I spent about half of the time crying into the phone. So many things flew across my mind, and the first thing was that I couldn't return to office back on time on friday. Haha. & I had no phone and no contact number to tell anyone.

After much hassle and a myriad of directions from the airport staff, I finally found the KLM desk (not the hotel desk lor) which I had to queue for half an hour before I spoke to anyone. & they told me to go board the bus which will take me to Hotel Ibis, where I could bunk in the for nite. I guess I really looked very worried and sad, and even the gal told me dun worry too much, it wasn't not hard to find the bus-stop, and that I was thinking too much. haha. Well, I guess she wouldn't say that if she knew wad I had gone through during this trip, and how lost I felt without all my valuables, and worse, without jw. & now she was telling me the airport will retain all my luggage and I had nothing and no change of clothes to bring to the hotel. Wow. Thanks. Haha. I asked her if there was anything she could provide, she then took out a care kit for me. Which was quite fascinating (well, i never saw one before) and contained a XXXL T-shirt, washing liquid, toothbrush/toothpaste (what i needed most), make up remover, mositurizer etc. Goodie. at least I can brush my teeth.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So, I guess it didn't take me long to accept the fact that I was going to stay a nite alone in Amsterdam, and i decided to make the most of it and take more pics! Wahaha. &, try best to relax and enjoy myself. Had another hurdle to cross because the immigration officer said they might not allow me to get out of the airport since my emergency DOI (document of identity) didn't state Amsterdam as one of the travelling countries (yar, it was supposed to be a 'transit' for me so jw didn't mention when reporting to the embassy). Well well, how would it be like if they really forbidded me to go out and i had to camp overnight in the airport?? Hmm. I dunnoe. Bo bianz lor. But luckily, they let me proceed to the hotel after much discussion. *phew*

Managed to check into my room and check out the restaurant, the hotel surroundings, and forked out my last fortune to use the computer so that I could email to my bosses that my flight was cancelled. Also gave jw a call to reassure him that I was fine and I will survive well. He said I was a strong gal. =) I wanted to be one, to let him know that I can survive well in times of trouble and that he didn't have to worry bout me. & he said he'll always be with me, even if physically we ain't side by side. Yup. I knew that I'll never be alone. Never. So well, i took a good long hot water bath that nite. My next problem came when my menses arrived that nite. Of all timing, it had to come there and then. Urggghhh. No change of clothes. But very luckily had a pad wif me and I knew I just have to thong. Hope the cramps won't be severe. It wasn't easy getting to sleep dat nite. I tried at 12am and at 4am I was still wide awake. Haha. & well, my wake up call was at 6am. (i had no phone, so requested for wake up call because i will kill myself if I missed the bus back to the airport!)

Well, I was glad to leave the hotel the next morning. =) & knowing that I had survived well. Rewarded myself with McDonald's breakfast using the compensatory 10euro voucher KLM gave me. Yay. Finally, I guessed I WAS GOING HOME. =p

Just when you think things won't go wrong anymore, they always do. I fully understand the meaning of this from my trip. Haha. When checking in, the immigration officer refused to take into account the fact that I ALREADY checked in successfully the previous day, and I was taken to some 'interrogation' room where they asked me alot of questions about my lost passport. & stuff like why I was travelling alone, where I came from, and why the DOI didn't state Amsterdam. Yawnz, i wished I had a tape recorder so that I could replay it everytime so that I didn't have to keep repeating.

Finally finally, after 2 more hours, I boarded the plane back to Singapore. When the air stewardess asked me if I was willing to change my seat with this guy so that he could sit with his parents, I thought sure, why not. Let them be together. =) So, when i was settling down in my 2nd seat, they started serving the usual nuts and hankys. & well, after fidgeting with my TV screen for 15min, which was staring blankly at me, I had to ask the air stewardess for help. Her first reaction was telling me that i need to plug the headset wire in. I politely told her I did that. & then she tried to figure out what was the prob, before telling me that the TV was spoilt. Cool. 13 hours of flight ahead, & I didn't tink I could survive without a TV. So she helped me to shift to a seat which was right in front of the toilet. But oh well, that made it easier for me to use the WC, rite? Haha. Positive positive positive. I can't let anymore negativity get into me.

So, finally I settled down into my 3rd seat, only to realise that the seat was spoilt and it couldn't be pushed back, but I was too lazy and tired and contented enough to not want a 4th seat on the same plane. So well, that was how I survived the whole flight. & again, I couldn't sleep much and watched 3 movies. Keke. =) I was just praying to myself that the plane will land safely and no more hiccups will occur.

Yip. Finally. I reached Singapore. You have no idea how I felt at the point in time. Tremendous, enormous, huge relief. yeah yeah. That's my mini 'adventure' back home. & yesh I missed the NDP parade, but well, it still felt simply great to be home. What an amazing trip i had wif jw. Keke. Happie Belated Birthday, Singapore. =)

Vivacious Venice...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The 2nd last stop of our Europa trip, after which we'll be heading back to jw's house in Sweden. Was really looking forward to Venice, because jw's frenz told him that it's the most romantic city in Europe. and also becos it's so unique to be in a city entirely on water. Of coz, we still kept singing Wei Ni Si De Lei the whole time... =p

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usWe took a bus, then the vaporetto (aka their water taxis since there are no cars here) to our hotel, called Tintoretto, which was just beside the casino. Keke. Which we never went cos' the hotel staff told us you needed to dressed in shirt and tie and proper shoes to enter. Anyway, with our emergency travel docs, we successfully checked into the hotel. We actually liked the hotel room alot. Cos it was a surprisingly clean, comfy, and nicely designed room. Each of their 17 rooms had an unique design (yesh tImage Hosted by ImageShack.ushey only had 17 rooms!) and ours was a nice bluish, floral design. The toilet had no bathtub (our first hotel without a bathtub), but was very hygenic and that was all it mattered. =) Even our wardrobe had a lock and key for safety reasons. Keke. & oh, we could have breakfast everyday too. Yippie yay. To get to our room, we had to first walk into a super narrow lane which just fitted the width of my luggage, then using a magnetic card, we could unlock the front gate and climb the stairs. We had a gigantic key to open our room too. Heavy sia. But hey, the corridor (see right) outside our room was nicely lit and looked very clean doesn't it? I quite liked it. There were even sofas there for you to take a seat if you want. See the curtains there? Once jw hid behind there trying to give me a scare (ehhh we always try to scare each other and shout BOO), but he failed because OBVIOUSLY I could see his humanly figure behind the white curtains. Wahaha. But good try there. =p

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us We had a very peaceful and enjoyable first night in Venice. Had dinner at the restaurant at hotel Tintoretto. I ate carbonara and jw ate seafood pasta. It was unexpectedly delicious, even jw who doesn't dig into western food said it was yummy. Hee. Woooo. No wonder you must always try pasta when you get to Italy. It's just so finger-licking good!! Or maybe, we were just two starving souls after our flight and long bus ride. Wahaha. We took long to decide on whether to get wine or not, but since the pasta was so ex already, we settled for non-sparkling mineral water which cost 2euros. Hehe. There was a guy who was playing his violin behind us, & I realised busking is also allowed here. It was quite romantic. =) & as usual jw gave him some tips and a pat on his back. Keke. My friendly fiance. After dinner, we went for a stroll along the streets of Venice. It was quite quiet and peaceful, and not as happening as what I imagined. Well, but I had already read in Lonely Planets that clubbing was at a minimal level in Venice. Wahaha. Which means we won't really get to club during our whole Europa trip. How wasted, but Image Hosted by ImageShack.uswell, we'll always get a next time. Ooooooo, we ate the yummy Gelato ice-cream here. keke. Maybe it's just an illusion, but eating Gelato here tasted much better than in Spore. Keke. Or perhaps it's the company and the venue that really matters at the end of the day. After dessert and shopping, we walked across a bridge to a pub for some beer. There was a live band there, who wasn't really impressive, but well, it was still an enjoyable moment. There were 2 doggies there, and this black one actually knew how to pick up the plastic cups with his mouth and take them to the kitchen. But hor, I think he usually ended up playing with them and ripping the cups till he spoilt everything. Hehe.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usWe spent the whole of our 2nd day shopping and taking pics. Hee. We bought alot of stuff at the 1euro shop, including a bag & crayons for xuanxuan, shorts for shanmei (jw's sis-in-law), seashell necklace for leela, hairpins and scrungee for my colleagues, prezzies for the badz gals. Oh, and jw bought me this 1euro purple shades, since mine was stolen. Purple!! I looked damn obiang in it. =p Moving on, I also bought earrings, a pendant for jiejie, & jw bought a set of venice shot glasses. Ohhhh, we also went to this baby clothing shop and bought lotsa stuff, ma chiam like we were shopping for our own BB, but neh, we were buying presents for whoever we could think of. Hehe. In Venice, I also bought my one and only bag throughout this trip. Cost 7.5euros but I reallie liked it. Keke. We were lucky to find a pair of earrings inside the bag too. Woohoo.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usWe slowly made our way to the most famous place in Venice, St Mark's Square. Boy oh boy, we saw hundreds and hundreds of pigeons the moment we stepped into the square. No joke. It was quite an overwhelming sight at first, though both of us felt that the Grand Place in Brussels was much more magnificent and pretty. Still, it was quite an experience to be here. We bought corn to feed the pigeons, and oh man, they left like tens of scratches on our forearms. Wahaha. But it was so FUN!! The piegons would land on our forearms, and some would even jump onto our sImage Hosted by ImageShack.ushoulders and head. Keke. We tried to take alot of pics of us chasing after the pigeons so that they would all take off and fly together. Wahaha. I bet we took at least 50-60 pics here alone. Now you won't wonder how I can take 2000 pics within 10 days right. There was this special pigeon wif a green mark on his body that caught our attention, becos' everytime he flew onto our arms, he will peck at the corn and spit it out and not eat it. But when others land beside him, he will peck at them, fight with them, and force them to leave. FWAH. Fierce bird, and selfish bird who wants to be king. Kept following us too. Pity the rest who got injured by him. Guess it's also survival of the fittest in every animal kingdom.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usWe also took pics at Piazza San Marco, the tall tower with the greenish tip. Using a few fako photography taking skills, we took pics of me 'hugging' the tower and jw kissing it. Keke. Again, we were laughed at by other tourists. Haha. Also visited several statues/ sculptures/buildings/bridges in Venice. =) There was this bridge called the Bridge of Sigh. I wonder why.

We had a cheap cheap dinner that nite. Went to the supermarket to get two roast chickens, a pack of Nachos, a packet of juice, and Tadah, we headed back to our room for our dinner. Hee. Enjoyed the dinneImage Hosted by ImageShack.usr while watching a beach volleyball competition on TV and jw kept complaining how lousy they were. Haha. Well well. I didn't think they were lousy. Wooo, did I mention we kept hearing Rihanna's Umbrella and seeing the MV here? I must have heard it at least 10 times, and the chorus kept ringing in my head, even when I bathed I heard it on TV. Haha. That nite we stayed in our hotel room all nite long, and that was when jw drew the pretty Paris drawings for moi. All within one nite, waha, while I was watching all the 'weird' shows they show on TV during late nites. So fascinating. =) Nua-ing and doing nothing overseas is actually a kind of bliss. Hehe.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usThe next day we checked out the gondolas. But fwah, they quoted us 120euros for a short 20min ride around the city waters. That's over S$240 lor. Sha ren fang huo. When we said no, the guy actually lowered the price to 80euros. But neh, we abandoned the idea eventually. & guess wad? We ended up taking the vaporetto for a long ride, covering almost a loop around Venice. It was bright and sunny, but nonetheless quite an enjoyable ride. Keke. =p Saw alot of gondolas passing us by. Well well, the rich pple vs the poorer ones. Hehe. But poor people can find happiness using means that don't need as much $$, right?

During our last nite in Venice, we actually spent hours taking pics of the various places we visited in Europe. How?? Haha. Using the magnets, travel books, brochures that we had with us. So basically we were replicating the pics. Hehe. & we had to 'co-operate' by having one of us taking the pic and the other trying to block out the light so that there's no reflection on the pic. Hehe. That was damn hard. We spent 2-3 hours doing that alone. =p How an unique experience on our last nite.

The next morning, we checked out of Tintoretto, all ready to make our way back to Sweden. & well, the next sad (& somehow fascinating) thing happened. Guess wad? I ACCIDENTALLY RE-FORMATTED THE CAMERA. Therefore deleting ALL the remaining pics taken during my Europa trip. In Barcelona and Venice. *clap clap clap* how can I be so li hai.. or rather, so silly as to do such an idiotic thing.. Wah kaoz.. Haiz.. Told jw not to leave me alone liaoz, so when he went to purchase the bus tix, my fingers got itchy and I started to look at my photos, & when some images were unidentified, I tot formatting might help and I actually clicked on it. COOL. Haha. Irreversible mistake. Made me cry this time round. Cried until I laughed. Because, I think I just did an amazingly silly but amusing act.

Well I guess it's fate. No pics for Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris. So, fair to have no pics for Barcelona and Venice as well. wahahahaha. Sorry jw.. I didn't mean it... but I know you don't blame me in the least. Sometimes I wonder why you like a silly gal like me...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Righty.. that concludes my europe trip.. =) every country had a write-up, so hope you enjoyed reading on our adventures and all the ups and downs we went through together..

Till the next trip.. Maybe europe again, or South Africa?? Hehe.. Can't wait for that moment to come..

"Baddie" Barcelona

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Hey, finally, we've come to the next highlight of the trip!! TA-DAH!! Barcelona (I love the chinese name, Ba Sai Luo Na), Spain!! Wow, when I think of Spain, I think of people in bright colourful dresses dancing away, think of partying and merrying amidst the booze and Spanish music, think of bull racing, think of Meteor Garden (aka Liu Xing Hua Yuan). =) Told jw that I wanna find the fountain that Shancai drank from, and the church that Shancai and Dao Ming Si pledged their love. Keke.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usAnyway, it was a smooth flight from Paris to Barcelona. Our first flight together during this trip, via Ryan Air. It didn't take us too long to find our hotel, along La Parellel. (I think we are becoming experts at map navigating =p). We checked into Hotel Auto Hogar. Weird name, but we got a clean and comfy room, with a spoilt safe. Haha. Well well. It was the first time we could enjoy continental breakfast every morning! though that would mean we have to crawl of bed by 9am (breakfast is served from 7.30-9.30am)! Image Hosted by ImageShack.usUH OH, 2 lazy pigs, can make it mah? *yawnz* Well. For our first meal in Barcelona, we finally tried steak!! Our first steak in Europe. Quite yummy though the waiter looked quite suspicious and fishy and worse, he actually did not serve our dessert and walked off to some other shop when we enquired bout it. Hey, that was my yoghurt okie. Maybe he bluffed us from the start. There was NO yoghurt dessert at all. No wonder the place was so empty. Wahaha! The breakfast at Auto Hogar was not that yummy, but it was good enough for a free first meal of the day. I liked the ham & cheese and brownies. Keke. Remember we will always buy a bottle of mineral water (euro $1) from the vending machine at the landing whenever we go out. Hee. Jw says can't really trust their tap water. Right. Barcelona was the start of a roller coaster ride for us. Whhheeeeeeeeeee.....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We had a wonderful first day here, visting the L'aquarium and having a nice dinner nearby. L'aquarium was fun! Sort of like our Underwater World. I always enjoy finding out more about animals, and jw will always be there to explain more about each of them to me, esp when it comes to marine animals (oh yeah, he loves fishing). We took alot of pictures of the funny-looking fish, like the dragon lookalike sea horse, some wormy fish, giant octopuses, giant fishes, and oh there's a tunnel where you can see all the sharks and fishes swimming around and above you. Woho. I like that. I also learnt how to tell the difference between a female and a male shark. Keke. That's easyyy. (hint: it has something to do with the male organ. Male sharks have not one, but two!! Called claspers) Hey we did take a pic here! & I still have it. Waha. Thanks to the money sucking photography services at all these tourist attractions, because without it, I won't even have this pic. Wahaha. For dinner, jw had seafood pasta (which was delicious) and I had lasagne (which was green in colour). We also shared a jug of sangria, which I personally liked alot. Hee. It was one of the best dinners we had in Europe. We had a peaceful first nite too. Lalala. All ready for the 2nd day!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us SAGRADA FAMILIA. Right. If you haven't been here, you haven't been to Barcelona. This is the most famous building designed by the all famous Gaudi, who's responsible for so many of the architecture we see in Barcelona. & what's fascinating is that this building is unfinished, and there are people who are helping Gaudi to carry on his life's work and they estimated that the date of completion would be 2026. Jw was quite fascinated and puzzled by the idea that tourists from all over the Image Hosted by ImageShack.usworld flock here just to admire the building and the design of it all. A buidling that's not yet done. Keke. Maybe that's where the beauty of it lies. I must say the workmanship is so delicate, and every inch of the building and the towers are skilfully constructed with precise measurements. Was really amazed by how Gaudi tests the weight/characteristics of all types of granite and building materials before locating the right one. See pic on left. How smart. =)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usHeeding to my request, we queued up to take the lift to the top of one of the towers. Hee. Taking the lift cost each of us Euro$2!! Fwah. But being the nice guy that he is, jw took it with me even though he thought there wasn't much to see from the top. Keke. The catch is, you can take the lift up, but there's only one way down. The stairs. It's not just tens of them, we must have walked hundreds of stairs here, along the narrow spiral stairway. Woo. We took alot of pics here too, like we can see the giant fake 'strawberry' (jw's fav fruit) from the windows. Somehow, some of the towers had fruits on them. Had some kind of symbolism which I can't remember now. We also took some 'spiderman' poses pics, or 'prisoner' pics where we hid behind bars or squeezed onto the small space near the ledge. Yeah yeah. You can say we are childish. I don't deny that. Woohoo. At age 24 and 28, we still will behave like kids sometimes. But, I like it this way. Hehe. Kids are the ones who know how to appreciate and love life most. =) So, sometimes I do wish I feel and act like a kid. Hee. Happy happy!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us We saw many of such statues at the entrance. & well, as always, we started to play with our cameras and took turns doing the exact poses as the statues. Hee. The Sad Man was jw's and he did quite a good job imitating that. For the couple pic you see here, well, that was fun!! Haha. Because we tried to do it time and again, because either one of us will end up giggling or not looking serious. & we will retake again. I had to put my left hand on his right face, and well, THAT gave me the giggles somehow. Kaoz. We were doing this right at the entrance of Sagrada, so that we can have the statues exactly at the background and us in the foreground. Woohoo. The other tourists probably thought we are nuts, or sua ku Chinese, and weirdo Asians. Wahaha. But, who cares?? Not us. =) Life is too short to care bout what others think of you all the time.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usMoving on, guess what we saw near Sagrada? Wooohooo. No more Quick, No more McDonald's. Make way for KKKFFFFCCCCCC!! My fav fastfood chain. Haha. Cos i loveee fried chicken, esp the skin! (yeah yeah, fatty and high cholestrol, but it's YUMMY!) Was really delighted to see KFC, and we decided we would eat here for our dinner after we visited Sagrada. Keke. & maybe after dinner we will visit Park Guell or check out the clubbing places cos' we heard that it's happening and hey we read quite a few brochures that introduced the popular clubs here. Lalala. Yes. That was THE PLAN. But don't they tell us that things in life doesn't always happen the way you wish they'd?

Yay. So there was I, happily taking pics of my food. (in case you are wondering, yes, I do that at every single meal without fail). Both of us enjoyed every bit of the dinner, cos' we were starving and the chicken tasted abit different from what we eat in S'pore. Yummy-licious. I was the first to finish my plate, and when I was telling jw I wanna take a look at the camera, he looked beside him on the empty chair, then turned to look at me saying, "Bag LEY?" Fwah. I will never forget those two words. Wahaha. I tot he must be joking, didn't I just hand the bag over to him and he put it beside his lap? What does he mean by "Bag Ley?" UH OH. See the invisible sweat trickling down our foreheads. Without even washing our hands, we dashed around KFC and dashed out onto the roads in search of my black Puffy sling bag. But it was gone. Too late. Sometimes, you really realise some things when it's TOO late.

Do you believe in fate? I do. It was fated that we so happened to change bag that morning, from the usual orange backpack to the sling bag. It was fated that every day I would hang my brand new Canon camera around my neck with my pink lanyard, but that day I just felt like my neck was aching and I decided to pass the camera to jw to store in the bag. It was fated that everyday jw would keep our passports in his Ah Peh Kor (aka khakis), but that day he wore a 3 quarts with small pockets that cannot contain our passports and for the first time, he kept them in our bag. How can it be so qiao?? Which is why I said there's something called fate. Haha. So that's it. Gone. My brand new Adidas pink & grey jacket from Tokyo, my shades, my brand new Canon Ixus 75 which cost nearly $600, our very cool LIME video camera that jw bought for me as a gift from this year's IT fair, our backup Samsung camera, two 2BG and one 1GB SD cards, a Lonely Planet's guide on Barcelona, our newly bought magnet and my earrings, our chen pi (preserved mandarin orange peel), our passports, my brand new Sony Ericsson K610i that's a few weeks old, some tissue paper and plasters. Say byebye to 2000 pics of precious moments during our Europe trip and 300 invaluable videos we captured.

Luckily jw still had his phone and some money and his credit cards. Picking ourselves from the shock, we made our way to the police station which was not very easy to locate. Well. I thought I would bawl like a baby soon. But I didn't. Too shocked, maybe. Waha. We spent hours at the station, filing the report, and getting our statements taken down. The policeman said the thieves strike everyday and are so professional that they can't be tracked. Damn. How encouraging. We were quite certain that the family at the table beside us were the accomplices, because they did a few suspicious acts like leaving their bag on the table and walking away. But it was too late. We didn't expect them to pull a stunt on us. & still asked us to rummage through the rubbish bins. Which we really did. 40? Image Hosted by ImageShack.us50? I dunnoe. I lost count. We spent the wee hours of the nite lifting up garbage container lids, peeking into the dark and smelly containers, searching through each and every bin we saw near the crime scene. & also kept calling my phone, with the faint hope of hearing the ringtone (yeah the funny thief didn't shut my phone, maybe he doesn't even know how to unlock it lor). But well, all hopes were diminished time after time. We didn't wanna give up, but we had to. I asked jw to keep praying to lao tian ye, and hope that he gives us back just the passports and SD cards. We also sent smses to my phone saying we were willing to exchange Euro$1000 for the above items. But ehhh, who will be so dumb to reply and not be afraid that we'll collaborate with the police to ambush them. Well. Still. A little hope is better than no hope at all.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usI couldn't sleep at all that nite. Watched my dragonball cartoon (in Spanish!!) and a few other programs. Turned off the TV and tried to get to bed. Tossed and turned and ended up sitting up on the bed, with dear jw sleeping soundly beside me. Just CAN'T sleep. Was sad over the loss of all my memories. Oh did i mentioned we walked at least an hour plus just to reach home? Haha. If not for jw, I wonder how I could have survived the ordeal. Maybe it's really a guys and gals thing, because he could get over it quite easily and was more concerned bout the loss of passports than anything else. Me, I know without passports it'll be troublesome, but was certain the embassy could help, so my concern was the photos and videos. See. Guys are logical and gals are sentimental. Guess that's so true. Of cos he wished we didn't lose the cameras too lar. But he was ever so positive throughout this incident and said that as long as we don't lose each other, we will one day regain what we've lost, or gain something even better. & when I said I lost all my treasures, he said I didn't, because my treasure is still standing in front of me. Yeah I know I said this before, but the memory is so vivid that I must repeat it here. Wahaha. I think his words really knocked some sense into me. & that was how I started realising the fact that some things are left better unsaid and unseen, but just keep them close to you at the bottom of your heart for eternity. The memories, all we did, all we saw, all we heard, all we said, yesh i definitely can't remember them all, but I will always recall how happy I was. =) How happy we both were.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usOn the 3rd day, we had lunch at a Chinese food restaurant at La Rambla. & I almost lost my cap too because I left it in the restaurant and walked off before dashing back for it. Phew. How many more things can I lose man... Then jw bought a new camera for me. Hee. Canon Ixus 900Ti, which cost more than Euros$350. Wow. That's expensive. But I reckoned it's worth it and it definitely helped to bring back the smile on my face once I started taking pics again. keke. Like a young little gal who lost her candy but found a lollipop. =p With the little time we had left, we dashed all around to the famous places in Barcelona. Including Sagrada Familia (yar, again!), Columbus statue (oh yesh we did come here too!), Park Guell, Casa Batillo, the beach, Hard Rock etc.

There was this beautiful fountain where we took some nice piggyback pics too. Wahaha. Soon it was our last nite in Barcelona. We decided to go up to Montjuic, but alas, firstly we missed the last tram up to Montjuic, and secondly when we tried to walk, this guy told us that it's very very far and weImage Hosted by ImageShack.us should take the metro and alight at another station instead. Well. After some thought, we decided to abandon the idea. And guess wad we did? Haha. We brought back our beer and wine to our hotel room and played dice and card games. Keke. We played bluff, Texas Holdem, Tai Tee, Spade, Pair etc. & me wif my silly idea that the loser had to imitate an animal's sound and do its action. Keke. Kaoz. At first I kept losiImage Hosted by ImageShack.usng. =( Giraffe, snake, pony, scorpion, even T-Rex, I did them all. It was actually so fun!! Jw laughed till he couldn't stop because he said my actions were one and all the same for the different animals. Liar Liar. Where got. I got variety one okie, just that the ending is always my animal will end up crushing on him. It was fun when he lost too, becos he's more knowledgeable and professional and started teaching me all about animals. Wahaha. Like how polar bears catch their prey by pouncing and breaking the thick layer of ice, and how antelopes (male ones) fight with each other using their horns etc. That was interesting. Oh for our game, of cos', the loser must also drink. Keke. How can we miss the drinking part. =p Hey by the way the wine was only like euro$3, bout the same as soft drinks. Wahaha. =)

So that was the end of Barcelona for us. Our travel docs managed to arrive on time from Paris and we managed to fly to Venice the next day. Actually, I think the last nite in Barcelona was one of the best nites I had in Europe. Maybe even the best of the best. Becos' there was so much joy and laughter and love in the air. Perhaps even more so after the theft happened, and we started appreciating what we have even more.

So, sometimes when bad things happen, maybe, just maybe, there's a reason to it all. We can't help bad things from happening can we? Neh. Life is not perfect. If life is too perfect, we will also take everything we have for granted. No no. That's not right. So well. I stopped blaming lao tian ye for what happened, and started to turn my grudge into gratitude. Thanks to jw, for helping me to flip the coin and see things from the other side.

Next up.. My last country.. Venice.. Wei ni si de lei.. That's what we always sing in our videos whenever we mentioned Venice.. But hor, we only know those 5 words and we stopped abruptly after that.. cuckoos.. nitey!!!
