Love or bread...

So, CNY came and went in a flash. It's the first time in many many years that I didn't watch the CNY countdown on Ch 8. It's the first time in many many years that I didn't play mahjong or in between on CNY. And it's probably the first time that I'm not at popo's house to have reunion dinner with them. Sob. Everything feels kinda different here. Yeah yeah. It's good that we still had potluck and steamboat, we played blackjack and texas, and we ate goodies that the wives baked or brought back from singapore. But I guess, something is still lacking somewhere. And well, that thing, is kinship.

CNY 2006 & 2008

Not to mention that it's the first time jw and I have to distribute red packets. Haha. I feel really 'old' and adult-like doing that. Like, shuang shuang has really really grown up. Collecting red packets was one of my biggest hobbies and most anticipated events of my life for the past 25 years. And now, it has bidded farewell to me.

Zai jian le, wo de hong baos...

I think I need to write more posts in chinese, so that next time Mummy can read and understand what I'm writing about. Hehe. Well, anyway, jw and I are currently watching "Wo de yi wan mian bao", Love or Bread. A new Taiwanese serial by Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin. That is, Zheng Yuan Chang & Lin Yi Chen! =) Kinda like it, funny, real, and lovey dovey. First time that both the male and female leads are poor. Many serials that we have watched, either the guy is a prince or the girl is a princess or either one of them is from a well-to-do family. This time round, both are poor and need to scrimp and save just to even have three meals. I kind of prefer this storyline.

Would you prefer love or bread?

Hard to choose, right. I dunno, but I guess I will be a 'love' person anytime, not 'bread' person. I won't mind scrimping and saving as long as I am happy together with my loved one. =) I don't mind not having car, not living in nice apartment, not able to go spas or facial, not being able to eat luxury food, not being able to buy any branded bags. I really think love is much more important than all this. True love can't be bought with money.

That said, of coz, I'm very xing fu and though we are not rich and all, jw has been able to bring me to travel like going to US! =) He's right in saying that our money is mainly spent on travelling, because we don't buy alot of other stuff for ourselves nor do we splurge and shop alot. =p Well well.

Yes dear. Thank you! We will save up from now and build up a cosy home and family next time. Small but warm, cosy, and filled with love in every inch of the house. =) Lalalala...

May the year of the ox be a great one for us, for our families, for our friends, and for everyone we love...

Out of the bad comes something good..

So, I thought yesterday was really an unlucky day for me. Well, I don't read into horoscopes or star signs or anything, but I do believe in fate and in luck. Still, although I believe that some 'suey' things are bound to happen to everyone in one way or another, sometimes maybe all it takes is to give it a laugh or take a step back from it, look at it from another perspective and everything becomes so much easier to handle.

By the way I think the results of the birthday readings above is soooo wrong, but with only a bit of right in it larr. Firstly, I think patience is not my weakness but more of strength! Haha. *blushes* And humor and sex appeal are never my best strengths, much less describe my humor style as raunchy. I mean, HELLO, shuang shuang with raunchy humor??? Arghh. But well, I agree with bold and unpredictable. And I also agree on being self-driven. Ambitious wise, I'm not that sure. Sometimes I feel I am, sometimes I think I'm not. Well. Haha. And what, successful career in FASHION? of all things. Haha. Maybe I dreamt before I would be a fashion designer because I linked it to art. But well, it has never been my aspiration to venture into the fashion arena.

Back to the story, well, I've been having bad nights for the past weeks. Can't zzz at nights, sometimes till it's like 7am in the morning but I still can't get to sleep. I can toss and turn for hours and hours, count sheep of all kinds of shapes and sizes, rattle numbers in all kinds of languages, attempt every sleeping position I can, but it ain't of help. Looking at jw sleeping like a log beside me doesn't help too. So I get tired in the afternoons easily.

On Monday, I had a mail from UPS saying they tried to deliver a parcel to my house but couldn't because of the gate code. So I needed to wait for their arrival yesterday, and who knew what time they would come. So I slept from 7-10am, and at 10am, I would bounce up at every little noise and see if it's them at the door. (well, our door bell is like a mouse squeaking, so you don't usually hear it unless you are near to the front door).

So even when taking a hot shower at 10plus to wake myself up, I had to keep alert of the door. The thing is, if I missed this delivery, I might have to travel like 2.5hours to some other place to collect it. The man finally came at 12pm or so. A blur-looking, young Swedish guy. The first thing he told me was I need to pay him 164kr. What?? I already paid for the charges via credit card when I ordered the textbook. Sob. What to do. I dug out 200bucks from my purse and gave it to him. And he told me he had no change. *faintz*. Collect odd sums of money from people without bringing any change. Why??? Well, nothing else I could do but to dig high and low in the house before I found the exact change. So well. Gave it to him and got the book. That's not so bad, right?

Straight after, I went to my 'classroom' and opened the cupboard. Alas, the cupboard door gave up on me and dropped off, hanging loose on a metal piece by the side. Whatt.... All the screws came loose and fell to the ground. Haha. Good timing. I was about to go cook porridge for lunch. I tried fixing the darn thing for 15mins but I couldn't so I gave up and went back to my bedroom.

Next, I opened my wardrobe, and you know those horizontal poles for you to hang your clothes and stuff? Well. Somehow, when I was putting back my money in a drawer below, the whole pole fell on me. =( And well, tried as I might, I couldn't put it back without removing every single thing in the wardrobe. Every jeans, long johns, jackets, towels blah blah (I'm not going to describe how full the wardrobe is, but well, you know. Haha). So I spent another half an hour fixing everything and putting them back where they belonged. Before I knew it, it was 2pm and I had no lunch and nothing. Boo. Jw was not coming back to eat too. Always, suey things happen when he's not here. The other time when he was out of town, the whole ceiling light fell down. =(

Oh, and then I received feedback from my teacher that I needed to correct my I&F (investment and finance) assignment because it wasn't up to standard. I had to define market models and I have no idea what in the world it refers to in finance terms. Sob.

Well, I can write some other nitty gritty details to illustrate the frustration that built up in me when these things happened one by one. But well, zuo ren yao kan kai yi dian. Meaning, sometimes, it's not so bad after all. Wahaha. =)

So some happy things happened after all. =) Dear came back in the evening and we had a simple and nice dinner at Peking. We went grocery shopping at ICA and I had so much fun just recycling the cans one by one (like 100 of them!) and getting back 13kr. We screwed back the cupboard door together when we got home. =) And I watched a Liverpool vs Everton game with jw for the whole 93 mins. Wow. =) Somehow, I felt happy once again. Keke. And I printed out a nice red and gold 'fu' word, (ie fortune and happiness in chinese) and pasted it upside down in the house. =) I used the kawaii ang pows that jiu mu gave us to decorate the house because they are so pretty! So well, all these little things added up and made me a happy girl at the end of the day.

CNY is coming after all. Everybody should be happy!! RIGHT??? Woohoo!!~ I love love love love love CNY!!! Gong Xi Fa Cai everybody!!! Heard before Andy Lau singing CNY song? Hee. I didn't. But I love listening to this song! =p Keke.

Love this song...

Sorry seems to be the hardest word, sometimes..

I'm holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground
And I'm hearing what you say
But I just can't make a sound
You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down
But wait...
You tell me that you're sorry
Didn't think I'd turn around and say...

That it's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late

I'd take another chance, take a fall, take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
(But that's nothing new)
Yeah yeah

I loved you with a fire red, now it's turning blue
And you say
"Sorry" like the angel, heaven let me think was you
But I'm afraid...

It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
Woahooo woah

It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, yeahah
I said it's too late to apologize, yeahah

I'm holding on your rope
Got me ten feet off the ground...

Why I love him...

I can't believe I haven't gotten over the jet lag. =) Have been awake since 3am and it's now 8am but I feel so fully awake. Aiyohh. So, I decided to think of something to blog about. Oh and I replied Female Brides' interview email. Seems like our wedding will be feaured in the next issue! Woohoo. Lets me reminisce those happy days.

Right. So the topic I thought of is the 10 reasons why jw deserves the Best Hubby Award (at least, to me). Keke. Because I love this picture we took in LA! Best Hubby Academy Award goes to him, and Best Wife to me (yeah, bu yao lian, can't I just use it for photo-taking? Keke.) Well, it's been nearly half a year since we got married, nearly 66 months of being a couple, and 6.5 years of knowing each other. Wahhh. Saying it that way makes me feel like lao fu lao qi somehow.

The 10 reasons:

1) He loves me unconditionally.
Never asking me to change into someone else whom I'm not. Well, sometimes he complains that I need to work on my tummy and train out some 6-pac abs. Which I can never accomplish. But that's all. =) Keke. So I believe even if I become huang lian po, or grow into a fat auntie, or have pimples all over my face, he will still love me. Keke.

2) He joins in my silly antics.
Like giving names to our stuff toys at home, like calling each other names like 'Xiao Bae and Xiao Bee', 'Xiao Wang Zi and Xiao Gong Zhu', 'Xiao Wei Wei and Xiao Shuang Shuang' etc. Well. I can be lame enough to even think of cheers for us, couple cheers! And he's sweet enough to sometimes say them with me. Waha. I mean, I don't think every guy can do that, or is willing to do that.

3) He cooks for me.
So it's not a case of wife cooking and husband waiting for food to come. We would cook together when we can, or sometimes take turns depending on who wakes up first. I always think it's very xing fu to have a guy cook for you. And like I mentioned before, a guy possesses the most charm, to me, when he is i) playing the piano or ii) cooking in the kitchen. =) Well, I think jw can play one song on the piano, so it's not bad too!

4) He doesn't throw his temper at me.
Probably because in the first place, he's an easy-going person with not much temper at all to everyone around him. You don't see him scolding people much, not his family, not me. But yes, I am still able to make him extremely agitated sometimes when we quarrel. HAHA. But he cools off easily and always tries to hong me. Which I do appreciate.

5) He's generous and helpful to everyone.
I love it that he's so nice to everyone, even people he don't know. So that makes him a wonderful person! He will carry luggage for others when he sees them in difficulty when we are overseas, he will give tips to every waitress even if we are broke, he will try to help people find direction even though he's new in town too, he will make sure everyone has enough food before he fills up his own plate etc. Well. Plain nice! Makes me abit shameful of myself sometimes, because though I don't think I'm a bad person, I doubt I can be that good too.

6) He loves his family.
That makes him a super filial son. And he loves my family too! Hee. And it's amazing to me how our parents can get along so pretty well. My mum just jioed his parents to KTV on New Year's Day and four of them went together! His parents will give a bottle of DOM wine to my brother and da-sao after Rena was born. I like it that way. =) Families that bond. And he's a nice son which makes me quite confident he will be a nice father next time too.

7) He is good at playing games.
Haha. A fortune teller once told me that because I am smart and capable, I need a husband who is even better and smarter than me. Well, I can't say I agree totally with the former, but the latter is quite true. I like the fact that he can play games well, be it wii fit games, poker games, maths games, drinking games, board games and it's always a challenge for us to try to outwin the other. I mean, it would be boring if my husband doesn't know or like to play all these things. =) So maybe, that's partly why we fit each other. HAHA.

8) He's a honest hubby.
Well, I guess no one is perfectly honest or has never even told a white lie, but I believe jw is one of the most down-to-earth, honest people around and I guess that makes him rank the top of my list. =) We slowly built up our relationship because it didn't start off so well at the very beginning, but the honest him gradually earned my trust and I still do strongly believe that he doesn't lie to me. =) Women have strong sense of intuition, don't they?

9) He never forgets to give me a hug or kiss before he leaves the house.
Well, maybe all husbands are able to do that. But still, I think it means something to me and he deserves credit for it. Keke. Small gestures sometimes mean alot. Little things he does like write on our whiteboard in the corridor, send me SMSes out of the blue, make me a happy girl. He says I'm easily contented. Well. Zhi zu chang le, right? =p

10) He is who he is.
Sporty, fun-loving, faithful, amusing, cheerful, likes-to-nua, wonderful hubby. =) Just the perfect person for me. I guess. Waha. =p

So dear, though I think we will never stop arguing from time to time because we are both stubborn children and differences do exist in men and women, I just still think I am loving you more day by day and I hope you feel my love for you! =)

Once, I was asked the question of whether 'I love jw more, or jw loves me more'. Somehow, my first instinct said 'jw loves me more', because he had said before we will never be apart unless I initiate it, so somehow i just blurted it out. But now, reconsidering our married life so far, I think we both love each other alot and love is something you can't compare nor measure. All I know is that I can't live without my hubby!!~ Waha.

End of my post for now. =) Till more thoughts flow into my little mind. Tata!!

Happy 1st month!!

B
aby Rena
turned one month old on 28 Dec. =) Wow wow wow. I love looking at the pics of her on korkor's blog! Korkor and Mabel took pics of her each day as she grew up, and I thought it was such a fabulous idea!!~ and she's born in the year of rat, so the minnie mouse logo really suits her so well. =) hee.

Oh and her NRIC came out in 4D again! Korkor said it's the fourth time, first her birth timing, then her newborn weight, then her 1st month weight, then now NRIC. Arghhh. If jw's mother had known, she would have struck a little fortune by now! Hee. But still, my korkor did a great video of Rena and it won him a JVC handycam at Stomp DIY video contest. I realise I have so much to learn in my video-making skills! Ganbatte ne!! Ehhh, a bit off the point. The real point is, Rena is a lucky baby who brings joy and luck to everyone around her!~

And now, the top 10 pics of xiao ruixin that I love. Hee. Basically I love every pic since she's my beloved niece, but if you were to ask me to choose, here are my top choices which depict the different days of her first month, and each only reminds me how pretty and kawaii she is! Hope she loves our gift from NYC!! Way to go korkor and jiejie and congratz on the baby shower!!!

Our JS Mi Tang Yue Liang..

I thought that honeymoons were supposed to be sweet and romantic from the start to the end, and to me, it should be a magical journey filled with just love and laughter in the air and absolutely nothing else.. Well, naive as usual.. But don't get me wrong, we had a fabulous, lovely, wonderful honeymoon ultimately, though in the process the moon wasn't so honey afterall because we had a few squabbles over trivial matters.. Yeah yeah, typical mars and venus disputes.. But like I said before, I guess that's how a couple life should be.. =) And yesh, looking back, it was a perfect honeymoon for us.. =) woohoo.. Thanks dear, for such wonderful memories which will last me for a lifetime..

NEW YORK CITY
20 Dec - 26 Dec 08

Wonderful time spent with er jiu jiu and family, especially with cousin trisha, my dear little cousin whom we've only met once in the 8 years of her life, at my wedding. So it was really nice to gather in NY and play games together and chat so much bout her life. I muz say jw is really very li hai, he bonded so well with them in such a short time! My super sociable hubby, of whom I'm really proud of. =) We had fun drinking beer, playing mj, touring around Times Square/Brooklyn/Chinatown/Broadway/Rockafellar Centre, shopping in Woodbury, taking the ferry to visit Statue of Liberty, and climbing up to the top of Empire State Building.

My er jiu jiu, jiu mu and cousin Trisha! Love their xmas tree, and excited to spend the first xmas with them in NY. Thanks for the accommodation and all the meal treats! We practically spent nothing on meals! =) Woooo, and I got a free haircut! Hee..

My first white xmas.. Snow everywhere!

Us and the happily snacking Trisha as we await for the ferry to Staten Island..

Ta-dah!! The world famous statue!!

On top of Empire State Building.. Cold but pretty! We preferred Eiffel though.. =)

In Times Square.. Such a happening and brightly lit up place!!

One of my fav places.. The nicely decorated houses in Brooklyn, what efforts they put in! Wow!

LAS VEGAS 26 Dec - 29 Dec 08

One of the prettiest places I've even been to. Vegas rox!! We love the night scenery and all the pretty hotels and the night life and of coz, all the activities found there! =) Well, it's called Sin City for a reason. Keke. Oh yeah, and the city that doesn't sleep. That's true. We joined in the culture and only slept for 4 hours on the first nite, 4 hours on the 2nd nite, and tawned throughout on the 3rd. Woohoo! We don't gamble very very often, but how can you not when you are in Vegas right? Good thing jw and I have similar interests, and we almost always sit in the same table and play together. Hee. I love those moments dear, even though we lost. =) Oh and my favourite hotels will be Paris and Venetian!! Really really awesome. Maybe it's coz we visited Paris and Venice last year, that's why they brought back such sweet memories..

The hotel we stayed at, Circus Circus! Not bad, we could watch acrobatic performances for free! =) And the room cost only 47USD per night. Keke.

The giant jackpot which brought us good luck on the 1st night. Keke. Yeah only the 1st. But we still won from this machine. =) I loved to pull the giant handle!

Outside the Venetian, such pretty views that I just had to video them down.

We watched our first O show together, Le Rêve, at Wynn. Le Rêve means "The Dream" in French, and the name of the centerpiece painting that Steve Wynn owns, Le Rêve by Picasso. It is set in a one million-gallon (water) capacity theatre and features diving and feats of strength with state-of-the-art special effects. Well, both of us are not broadway show lovers, but this show was really incredible and we were really impressed by everything. Woohoo!!

My fav shot! Mini Eiffel at Paris hotel! Feels like we are back to the real Paris, where we took dozens of such shots, but well you know, they got stolen in the end. Sob. So it was nice to relive that moment in Vegas. Woohoo!!~ We love Vegas!!

LOS ANGELES 29 Dec 08 - 5 Jan 09

Things slowed down a little when we arrived at LA, because we had more time on our hands and could take it leisurely, and well, there were no casinos for us to rush to and fro to. Keke. It was a different kind of holiday here, visiting Universal Studios, Disneyland, Santa Monica etc and a truly enjoyable time for us.

We stayed at Rodeway Inn in Hollywood and it was really a good location. The inn had a king sized bed, a clean room, and I guess that was more than what we could ask for. Everyday we walked to Hollywood! =) Here we were, at the Avenue of Stars where there were many mascots for photo taking opportunities (provided you tip!). =) I managed to catch 'Scream' and 'Mr Incredible' without tipping. Keke.

And oh yeah, we tipped Optimus Prime because jw really wanted to take a pic with it. And he was kind enough to offer to let me take with him too. =)

We visited three museums in Hollywood, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Guiness World of Records, and the Wax Museum. Well, the thing I like bout these visits is we could fool around and try to come up with silly poses. =) Woho!

One of jw's fav shots. With Jim Carrey!! Oh we watched his Yes Man movie in Hollywood. Not bad!! =)

At Universal Studios, after watching the Terminator show, one of the best we felt. =)

The Mummy Ride!!~ Roller coaster which goes frontwards then backwards in super dark tunnel. Arghh..

We always visited souvenir shops, to buy magnets. Haha. Jw's hobby. We MUST get a magnet for almost every place we visit. Woohoo. Now our fridge is almost filled up liaoz.

At Disneyland, the magical land with of wonders. Somehow I preferred the Disney in Japan, it was prettier and more appealing to me, but well, nothing beats going to Disneyland with your spouse during your honeymoon, even if it means queueing up for 1.5 hrs just to get entrance tickets! *keke*

The pretty pretty castle

And yesh, the fantastic fireworks at the end of the night. I was so afraid they were going to cancel it due to rainy weather like they did in Tokyo. Luckily not. Woohoo. We loved the fireworks!!~

At Santa Monica Pier. One of the places I most wanted to visit. Love the sunset the second time we went. =) And sadly dear didn't get to fish like he wanted to because the shop that rented rods was closed! arghhh..

At Getty Centre with dear friend junwei. Thanks for putting us up for the two nights! Though the sofa was a tight fit, it was pretty cosy. Keke. =)

The last place we visited, the Aquarium at Long Beach. I knew jw loved aquariums, and we spent a good 4hours there I think. Well worth the entrance fee. Hee. Wooo that's a huge stingray!

A wonderful trip, an eternal memory. Thanks for everything you did, dear. Hope you loved it as much as I did. =) Oh, the only regretful thing is we didn't manage to go clubbing anywhere in neither of the cities. Arrghhh. But it's okie. Waha. It was still absolutely lovely. Ta-dah!!
