I think I am running out of ideas of what to cook for lunch everyday.. Better find some time to look at those stack of recipe books or search for online recipes soon bah.. If not it will be so boring for jw to eat the same things.. Hmmm.. But really, cooking is not my forte, though I think now I manage to pass.. hehe..
But well, I try to convince myself everytime that cooking is just like art & craft.. you have to be creative, you have to experiment, and add this and that, mix here and there, till you are satisfied with the end product.. waha.. =) and since I love to do art, so I guess cooking won't be that hard afterall..=) keke.. yar yar yar.. I have low expectations for myself.. Bottomline is: can eat can liaoz..
What we cooked and ate recently
Steamboat! Waha. Jw and I think that it's the easiest thing to cook. All you need is the soup, and to deshell, cut, marinate your ingredients abit. Woho. And it's showtime! It was rare to eat jin zhen gu (my favourite gu!) and toufu, so I really enjoyed that meal. Hehe.
Steamed threadfin. Hehe. First try was toooo spicy. Shucks. Second try was better. See, art & craft! It gets better with practice..
Attempted laksa. Waha. Hmm. Not too bad, but the mi fen was too thin, no like the ones we eat in singapore. Hmmm. I like laksa..
Hoho.. Ma Po Toufu!! With minced meat. I think it was yummy. Waha. Will give my art & craft piece 8 of 10 because I thought it looked nice aesthetically too. Hee. Usually my dishes look kinda normal, or even bad. HAHA. Don't have se xiang wei ju quan.
And for the first time in my life, I tried to cook braised pork. Waha. I'm not a lover of braised stuff, but my hubby is good at braised duck and I guess I better try to pick up the skill too. Then next time can cook braised pig's trotters for my mummy! Waha.
Woooo.. Not self-made, but we bought the dim sum from malmő and steamed it whenever we had the craving. Hee. Char siew bao ley, and har gao and siew mai! Our favourites. I miss Crystal Jade! And I always wonder how they cook their congee till so fine and yummy.. Mummy says it will take me 5-6 hours to cook, and I need a special type of grinded rice, well, so forget it.. Haha..
And one day I had the inspiration to cook fried yam rice because we had yam in our fridge. I dunno what to do with it. Would love to make yam cake aka yu tou gao but I dunno how. And so I tried to fry rice with dried shrimps, mushrooms, pork. Woohoo. Jw said it was delicious and he never fried it before. Yay yay. Score point!
And lastly, I was thrilled that we managed to buy dumplings though they were frozen. So I tried to cook peanut soup. You know, like the Zhen Jie dumplings at Amoy Market. Sweet, milky colour with lots of peanuts!! *drools* Haha. We had peanuts in our cabinet (used for cooking soup), but I didn't know how to peel their skins other than boil them and then remove them one by one by hand. Nicer without the skin ley, and that's how Zhen Jie and the Chinatown tang yuan looked like. So on Thursday, I spent nearly 1.5 hours just removing the skin when instead I should be studying for HOMT assignment the next day. But well, I wanted to let jw drink the first dumpling soup I cooked!Keke. Tang Yuan symbolized Yuan Yuan Man Man. Just like how we ate dumplings on our wedding day. =) Lalala. Happy memories
Well. That's all for now. Till the next time where I get more ideas. Mata!
